Greetings from trip leaders, Alli & James!
We’ve been in Dominica for two full days and we are LOVING IT! Our group of students is constantly bonding, whether we’re on car rides, cliff jumping, or just talking among ourselves, and we’re quickly adjusting to the new environment.
On our first full day in Dominica, we focused on orientation and meeting the locals, who are exceptionally kind and welcoming (in the Dominican culture, it’s actually rude to not greet everyone you see). That evening, the local council kindly made us a delicious chicken dinner.
Our second day, we attended a church service to watch a local sermon. We saw how crucial religion is to the people of Dominica and gained a better understanding of their close-knit culture. After church, we were in for a treat! A Rastafarian local brought us up to a beautiful and serene waterfall, where we all faced our fears of heights and jumped off some cliffs into a deep pool.
Although the exotic bugs make us cringe, we are very excited for the next few weeks. We all cannot wait for the bonding with Dominican kids and the adventures to come!
Stay tuned!
