ALLI DIEHLMANN
St. Lawrence University, B.A., Global Studies
While at St. Lawrence, Alli completed her honors thesis on Africa’s representation in Western media and how that affects aid giving. After organizing two class trips to Biloxi, Mississippi, in high school for Hurricane Katrina Relief she spent her freshman and sophomore spring breaks at St. Lawrence volunteering in New Orleans to continue relief efforts. Alli now works as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant in two elementary schools in central Vermont, helping students reach their speech and language goals. This fall, Alli will be continuing work as an Speech Language Pathologist Assistant and applying to graduate schools in New England. Alli is proficient in Swahili. She has led Putney’s Community Service Tanzania program three times.
JAMES PLUNKETT
Kenyon College, B.A., Sociology
While at Kenyon, James focused on conflict and gender issues in sub-Saharan Africa, spending a semester studying post-conflict transformation in Gulu, Uganda, and Kigali, Rwanda. After graduating, he moved to northwestern Tanzania to work for WomenCraft Social Enterprises, a local women’s micro-finance organization. While in Tanzania, James designed and implemented a leadership skills course for matriarchs of the local community and carried out a social impact assessment on the policies and programming of WomenCraft. James worked as a case aide for a refugee resettlement organization in Bridgeport, Connecticut, advocating for Congolese and Eritrean populations. He worked with underprivileged inner-city youth in the five boroughs of New York, getting students involved with after-school programs focused on theatre arts. James now works as a seasonal field instructor at High Trails Outdoor Education Center in Colorado, teaching students lessons on history and natural science through role playing characters from the historic American West. This fall, James plans to move to Thailand to teach English. He is proficient in French and Swahili.
